Photos of San German and Rincon, Puerto Rico
San German is a small town but it is the second oldest city in Puerto Rico and the third oldest in the United States, founded by the Spanish in the year 1573.  The heart of town has narrow little streets, cobblestones, and colonial homes packed tightly together.

We had heard that there was some historic ice cream shop here, with all kinds of weird flavors.  We saw some American hippies walking along the main plaza, so I said "hey hippies, do you know where the old ice cream store is?"  They said "it's not here in San German, it's in Lares.  But if you find one here, let us know because we would like some ice cream."

Rincon:
Rincon is the white person's beach bum town in Puerto Rico.  I thought it seemed more like Florida than anywhere else I saw in Puerto Rico.  We drove up there from Mayaguez, where our hotel was.  It took about twenty minutes or so to make the drive.  The beach was pretty but people are pretty careless about the trash.

Some people say there is a "green flash" that occurs just as the sun hits the horizon as it dips into the sea.
The bartender said she had seen it a few times.  We looked but didn't see it.

This rasta dude was about 4 feet tall.  Sounded pretty good.

Looking for the "green flash,"
but didn't see it.

Lots of trash along the roadsides and beaches of Puerto Rico.
